Minotaurs in Mougins

Public exhibition at the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Vie, Mougins, France.

April – December 2023

I am deeply honoured having been asked by the Municipality of Mougins, France, to exhibit three Minotaur sculptures at the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Vie as part of the year-long commemorative exhibitions and events taking place to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso.

The chapel is sited adjacent to the Mas Notre-Dame de Vie, the last residence and artistic workshop of Picasso, where he lived for 12 years with his last wife and muse Jacqueline Roque until his death in 1973. The greek myth of the Minotaur long fascinated Picasso and is often said to have been his alter ego. In 2007, as an homage to the artist, the new owner of this exceptional house renamed it “L’Antre du Minotaure” which loosely translates as ‘the Minotaur’s den’.
